Friendly Baby is sponsoring the NCT Feed and Change facility at the Glastonbury Festival Kidz Field. The Feed and Change Facility is in an even bigger tent than ever before as it is now seen as a strategic part of the Kidz Field and the family Glasto experience!

The tent is open between 9am until 7pm daily Friday - Sunday and is situated at the top of the Kidz Field in the toddler zone.

As with everything in the Kidz Field the Feed and Change facility is non profit making and is there to help make the festival experience pleasurable for parents and their little ones alike!

The tent consists of:

Friendly Baby Petitions Against Cloth Nappy Postcode Lottery

Friendly Baby’s e-petition to Downing Street calls to end the postcode lottery associated with cloth nappy incentive schemes. The Government’s recent Waste Strategy decision to cut waste sent to landfill, resulting in councils developing ‘chip and bin’ schemes and fortnightly collections, is a contentious issue, particularly for families with young children. Some local councils encourage parents to reduce waste by providing cloth nappy incentive schemes. However, it is a postcode lottery.

Some councils have fantastic incentive schemes providing cashback of over £50 on purchases of cloth nappies. Others, such as Ealing, provide no incentive scheme at all. Devon provides interest-free loans, but only for those with the right postcode.

If the UK is to reduce the waste sent to landfill, then the UK as a whole should have the same incentive scheme for parents to use cloth nappies. Preparing for a new baby is an expensive time, especially for those on a low income. Not everyone can afford the initial outlay of buying cloth nappies, despite the overall cost-saving. These incentive schemes are therefore essential to help more families use cloth nappies.

This isn’t a one-way benefit. Local councils need to reduce waste sent to landfill, and disposable nappies contribute around 15% of non-recyclable waste. So why aren’t all councils trying to help us to help them? Introducing a scheme at a national level is fairer and likely to be more effective at reducing waste.

Friendly Baby June Competition

Friendly Baby have teamed up with Organix for the Friendly Baby June Competition. This month we are offering you the chance to win one of TEN Organix Goody Bags.

Why have we teamed up with Organix?

Feeding your baby with organic food is a good way to ensure that their diet is nutritious and wholesome. This is because organic baby food contains less fillers, less added sugar and no artificial flavourings. In addition the ingredients are organically grown which means your baby will be protected from exposure to pesticides. From conception until one year of age, children are at their most vulnerable and pesticides have been found to bind fat, which once absorbed may stay in the body for a lifetime. Existing regulations on the amount of pesticide residues that non-organic foods may contain are based on 'acceptable' levels for adult consumption. Babies and young children, however, are at greater risk because the immaturity of their organic and body systems makes them more vulnerable to toxins.

Baby nutrition is so essential. One of the single, most important things you can do is ensure organic food plays a major part in your baby's diet during the early stages of life. During this critical stage of development, cells are multiplying quickly but the body has a limited diet to draw upon. Immature organs and bodily systems respond differently to food – a small child’s digestive system is more efficient than that of an adult at absorbing foods, enabling nutrients to be used more quickly but making children more vulnerable to toxins. Immature kidneys are not as proficient at excreting harmful substances, so they may circulate in the body for longer. It is for this reason that baby food is covered by special legislation. Preservatives, colourings and added salt are forbidden because babies cannot process them with their under developed digestive systems.

No one yet knows what effect genetic engineering may have on food products and the health of those who consume them. So the best way to protect yourself and your baby from possible problems is to choose organic. Organic foods are produced without genetically modified ingredients.

Organix guiding principle is that all food should be simple, tasty and nutritious. They only use those ingredients that you would be able to find in your own kitchen. Organic regulations forbid the use of artificial colourings and flavourings and most of the artificial ingredients used in non-organic foods. This is why you will recognise all the ingredients on the label of Organix foods - they go one step further and never add processed sugars, salt, thickeners, processing aids and unnecessary fillers to any of their foods.

Organix uses the best quality organic ingredients from around the world. All of the ingredients are Soil Association certified, to ensure they comply with strict organic regulations.
