Weather Disruptions as at 8th December

Statement from Parcel Force

The situation across the majority of the UK continues to improve, with significant numbers of additional deliveries being made in many areas which have been affected recently by the severe weather.

In summary, the compacted snow and ice which remains across much of Scotland and North East England continues to severely impact on our ability to deliver and collect parcels in these worst affected areas. Additionally, whilst significant improvements have been made in some areas around Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and specific areas of South East England, we do also have some parcels for these areas held securely awaiting delivery and are making every effort possible to deliver these as quickly as we possibly can.

Our drivers are making deliveries in all areas again today (except our Glasgow depot where the driving conditions in the immediate surrounding area are too treacherous for our drivers to leave). There are also some areas where we will unfortunately not be able to accept any ad-hoc collections for the remainder of this week.

The safety of our customers, the general public and our employees remains of paramount importance. We would like to thank you for your continued patience and understanding during these continued difficult conditions and again apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Statement from Royal Mail

Delivery of mail
Deliveries are taking place in most parts of the UK today. In some parts of the country, particularly rural areas, snow and ice are making roads and pavements difficult or unsafe. Where this is the case, we are continuing to review the situation locally and will resume deliveries to customers as soon as we can safely do so. Volumes of mail may be lighter and delivery times may be later during this period.

Temporary withdrawal of the Special Delivery™ guarantee
While we are continuing to accept, prioritise and expect to deliver the majority of Special Delivery™ items, the changing weather conditions mean we cannot guarantee the delivery of all items the next day in all areas. Therefore, in order to provide customers with clear guidance, we are continuing to temporarily withdraw the Special Delivery™ guarantee for items posted from Wednesday 1st December 2010. We will restore the guarantee of delivery as soon as we can assure customers we can honour the service promise in full.
